Magda MW Ulrich, MD, PhD

Magda MW Ulrich leads the preclinical research group of the Association of Dutch Burn Centres, a non-profit organization which aims to improve the cooperation between the Dutch burn Centres. The Association works together with the three burn centres to improve education, research and treatment in the field of burn care.

She is also appoint appointed at the Free University Medical Center in Amsterdam as a senior scientist at the department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery.

Magda Ulrich holds a PhD degree in biochemistry from the Maastricht The Netherlands. She received part of her PhD training at the New England Medical Centre of Tufts University in Boston.

She performed a post doctoral training at the pathology department of the Maastricht University, The Netherlands. During that period she stayed at the Falk Cardiovascular Research Center, Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford CA, USA.

After a second postdoctoral training at the Wageningen University, The Netherlands she was appointed at the Association of Dutch Burn Centres in Beverwijk, The Netherlands in 2001, where she started her own research group.

The research attention of her group is focused on fundamental research on cellular and molecular mechanisms of wound healing and scarring. With the ultimate aim to manufacture high quality skin equivalents that resemble normal skin with respect to cellular and molecular composition and functional features as intact physical and antimicrobial barrier function of the epidermis, and correct mechanical properties of the dermis.
